Why first aid VR training beats one classroom day a year

Most organisations train first aid the same way: book an instructor, fill a room, everyone kneels on a manikin for four minutes, sign the register, repeat in two or three years. The problem is not the course — it is the gap after it. Resuscitation-council guidance documents skill decay within months of a classroom course, which is why short, frequent refreshers are recommended over one long session — and frequent refreshers are exactly what an instructor-led format cannot deliver at a sane cost.

A headset changes the arithmetic. Once the licence is bought, a fifteen-minute refresher costs nothing but fifteen minutes: a night-shift technician runs it at 03:00, a new starter on day one. And unlike a video, the app will not end the scenario until the compressions are deep and fast enough, the pads are in the right places and the airway stays open. The extended version then attaches that muscle memory to a situation — an office, a car, a train carriage — rather than a mat.

CPR 30:2, measured

Thirty compressions, two breaths, rate and depth measured live and drift corrected. The scenario will not complete on a bad rhythm. Both versions.

AED operation

Open the unit, bare the chest, place the pads, stand clear, follow the voice prompts through analysis and shock. Both versions.

Recovery position and wound care

Rolling an unconscious but breathing casualty into a stable side position in the correct order, then dressing cuts and lacerations. Both versions.

Bleeding control and airway

Direct pressure, packing and tourniquets on catastrophic bleeds, adrenaline for anaphylaxis, and bag-valve-mask ventilation — seal, volume, rhythm. Extended version.

Scenario environments

Office fire with extinguisher choice and evacuation, road collision, train-accident triage under crowd pressure, tactical field care on the MARCH sequence, plus an anatomy room and quizzes. Extended version.

Worked example — four basic stations: 4 × €300 headsets (€1,200) + licences at €1,250, €1,250, €1,125, €1,125 (€4,750, with the 10% discount from the third station) = €5,950 net, one-off. Manikin integration and site-specific scenarios are quoted separately.

Rollout — fully remote, typically inside two weeks

  1. Demo. 30 minutes online in English. We stream both versions from a headset and agree which fits your risk profile.
  2. Trial. A test licence on your headset, or one we ship. Your safety lead runs the scenarios for a week before anything is signed.
  3. Order and licensing. You confirm the station count; we email activation codes. Redemption takes about fifteen minutes per device.
  4. Onboarding. A recorded remote session on hygiene, rotation, reading results and handling discomfort.
  5. Run and review. After a month we review usage and set the refresher cadence. English helpdesk and updates for 12 months.

International delivery. None of this needs us in your building. The app runs standalone on Meta Quest 3S — no PC, cabling or server. We ship pre-configured headsets anywhere in the EU and the UK, or send licence codes the same day for headsets you own. Onboarding, support and documentation are in English; we invoice in EUR from Kraków, VAT under the reverse-charge rules for EU business customers.

When not to use it

  • When you need the certificate. This is a practice tool. Where law or your insurer requires an assessed instructor-led course, run that course and use VR between cycles.
  • When you need the feel of a real chest. Without the manikin sensor, trainees learn sequence, timing and decisions — not how much force a sternum takes.
  • When nobody owns the programme. A headset with no named person scheduling sessions and reading results becomes a drawer ornament. If you cannot name that person, pilot first.

FAQ

Is the app available in English?

Yes — English interface, narration, documentation, onboarding and helpdesk. Other language versions can be produced for larger rollouts; ask us with your station count.

What age group can use it?

Follow the headset manufacturer’s age guidance — we do not deploy below it. Typical users are vocational students, adult employees and professional responders; the extended version’s field-care scenarios are better kept to adults and uniformed-service classes.

How do you handle hygiene between users?

Headsets have wipeable silicone face interfaces, and we recommend disposable or washable face covers where one device rotates through a group. Wipe interface and controllers between users; spare covers ship with the hardware.

Does it need Wi-Fi?

Only for activation and updates. Scenarios then run fully offline, which matters on a plant floor or in a vehicle bay.

Can we manage the headsets with an MDM?

Yes. They work with standard Meta device-management tooling and third-party MDM platforms used for kiosk-mode deployments, so IT can lock devices to the app, push updates and wipe them remotely.

Is the licence per person or per device?

Per device. One licence covers one headset and any number of people training on it in rotation, which is why one station serves a whole shift roster. Extra headsets need their own licence, with 10% off from the third station.

What happens with updates?

Compatibility updates follow headset firmware; content updates are issued periodically. A lifetime licence includes updates and helpdesk for 12 months, extendable to 24 for €375 net per headset.

Can we try it before buying?

Yes — a free 30-minute online demo, then a trial licence on your own headset or a pre-configured one shipped to you. Most buyers pilot one station before fixing the final count.

Can it be connected to a physical CPR manikin?

Yes, with the extended version and an additional sensor: real compressions on the phantom drive the virtual casualty, with depth and rate read from the trainee’s hands. Manikin and sensor are quoted individually.
